Naturalism
Naturalism is the philosophical belief that reality is composed solely of matter. It assumes that all phenomena can only be explained in terms of natural causes. Everything is reduced to the laws of nature.
Although it works well when we speak of the physical world, metaphysical ideas suffer when limited to the natural world. We could illustrate this idea when we discuss the nuclear sciences for chemical warfare, but naturalism fails to give us a basis for the moral dilemma of using that type of force in the world. You see, every philosophy must answer basic universal questions like, "What does it mean to exist?" "Why do I exist?" "Where did thought come from?" "What is the meaning and purpose of life?" "How can I know what is right and what is wrong?"
